Whenever I hear someone say that aren't bothered, or that don't care what others think about them, I am extremely doubtful. Now, when I chose the theme for the Fall 2024 retreat - "you remember who you are when you remember whose you are", God is who I am referring to. However, in the spirit of my retreats, my role is to hold space, respect and perhaps assist in navigating the spiritual journey of the women, so I don't always know who their "whose" is.
I don't know about you, but when I know someone I love and respect, has power in my eyes, and has my back, I take more chances, sometimes I'm reckless, but mainly, I step into my authenticity - with less care on how I look or sound.
So, whenever I'm low in energy or not spiritually grounded, I reach into my bag of tools and this time I pull out - support. Knowing God is my all in all (1 Peter 2.9) is not easy, nor is it always apparent, so when I'm tired, lazy, overwhelmed and feeling especially disconnected, I somehow receive a call or I make a call to one of my cheerleaders! Cheerleaders are a special kind of support that says things like, "you got this", "you have so much talent", "I love your spirit", and never once do you doubt their sincerity.
See, they're different than you best friends or buddies, or even the women in your sister circle. They get you because they're in the no judgement zone.
My cheerleaders have been my mother and my husband, my daughters at times and currently in the past thirty years or so, Antonia, Vanessa, Rozell, Laura, Whadia and Kimberly, AKA Smokie.
So name and claim yours, knowing that they speak well of you even in your absence!
